You guys have no idea how badly that guy got fucked. I actually thought he lost everything because I never saw that 1 vill escape and wiped everything off the map. To make it better, his ally sling him 600 wood for a TC and 250 for a blockhouse, and Tim found his new base with his envoy at 7:30 and so I went over there with the 11 pumas and 5 coyotes and he lost that too and his explorer... again. Fucked in the ass.
Funny story. My roommate CJ used to play Ages 2 and has been interested in learning Ages 3. He came into the room 10 minutes into this game and was like "Yeah, so I take it you're blue... and you're brother is red... and you're playing against yellow... and... hmmm... who else? I don't see him on the map." You're exactly right, CJ, you don't.

Yeah, he must have gotten the fuck out of there because when I did kill his FB, there was no vill to be found even though I killed his BH, TC, and explorer. This was another advantage of the envoy, he can help scouting post-rush too! The Dutch win.

Tim and I won another one tonight. We rush broke even because they both sent minute men at the same time so I lost a lot of pumas, but our post-rush counter attack was phenomenal and we took control of the water with 15-wood boats. We out-boomed them and it was over. Sometimes it's not the rush but the post rush that can win us these things.

I think this might have been ES's very original idea when rushing. It was meant to win, just give you a very good advantage.

With one or two notable exceptions, we have NEVER won a game simply because of the rush... the rush is designed to cripple one of them economically such that it puts them in worse economic shape than it cost Tim and I to initiate it. Because it is very rare that the second guy can produce enough of a force single-handedly to beat Tim and I combined (even though he might be in the best overall shape) the rush often gives us enough of an edge to stay ahead of them militarily and economically for the entire game. Since Tim and I are both good treaty players, we certainly know how to boom OK. ;D
This reason is why our rush failed the first few times we did it. We always beat up the first guy, but we just didn't have the practice to recover enough to keep the advantage that we got. It's also the reason that the Ottoman sling failed. Even though my recovery was the same, the Ottomans just take too long to get going, especially in the second age (no banks, fast building vills, mining bonus, and skirms) and especially after they've devoted all their starting resources to the Aztecs rather than getting XP from rushing.
The only exception was the one time that I literally wiped a guy off the map. He was a second away from being OUT when he resigned. The other guy could have had the best boom of his life, but you just can't win 2v1. On the other hand, the other exception on the negative side is when I don't kill get the TC or don't get enough vills. We lose the edge rather than gain it, so it's over shortly after that.

95 war elephants? The Aztecs finally get some calvary and they go crazy! How did they both manage to get to the second age at 4:35. I thought one of them would have lost their TC by then? Nice job fighting off their counter attack - didn't even need MM. Have you tried the 2/5 or 5/2 at 1:40 strat? Any BB jags?

Yeah, the reason that they were able to age is because of the double minutemen thing. A few coyotes were off fighting vills, so 12 MM were a bit much. Tim had to shoot me another 200 gold so I could build 5 more pumas... and THEY got the TC down, not the first 16. With 5 of them left, I did get all his buildings, and another 4 vills before I lost them, so what could have been a failed rush turned out to be OK. I actually was sitting on a ton of wood because of all the boats, so I built a WH in Tim's base and mine. When he attacked Tim, I pumped out some coyotes (again, food and wood), as well as 3 jags, and I sent my 10 mace shipment there but they retreated before it arrived so I canceled it and sent 3 WP's instead. Putting barracks in each others bases is key. That way, we can get help to each other more quickly since we never know which one of us they will attack. I've been doing a good job getting the needed resources in time so the 5/2 2/5 combo works but I often change it because I can usually get a food or wood treasure that changes it.

It's interesting to watch this develop. First it's a 4 min rush that works on good players. Then it's a 3:30 rush that can beat very good players that have a double MM defense and a counter attack. By the way, your combined rating is 3512 and theirs is 3519. Pretty close.
