Hey Ben, Iran's President seems to know more about economics than our government.
"The world economy can no longer tolerate the budgetary deficit and the financial pressures occurring from markets here in the United States, and by the U.S. government," he added.

ORLY! Fuck this, I'm moving to Iran. Seriously though, he's right. I think people are finally starting to realize that the U.S. dollar has been overvalued for years. What's worse is it has encouraged gross domestic overconsumption and continual budget deficits. You can thank the Carter, Regan, and Bush administrations for exacerbating the problem further with unfounded fiscal irresponsibility. www.boot.com/bigblackbootsUSseconomy.htm

Clinton did it too. Just not as much as his Republican counterparts.
Ben, what is the best way to regulate banks? Clearly the deregulation of banks over the past 5 decades (since the end of WW2), and the deregulation of free market have caused much chaos in this world. Failed human rights, race to the bottom, blah blah blah.
None of the European banks failed. They are boasting about it right now.
Now I'm a socialist, but I know there is no such thing as socialism. I also know there is not such thing as capitalism. A mix of both are needed for a nation and economy to survive. Europe seems to be able to prove it, and if there is one time we need to instigate regulation, right now is the time. When the economy failure, do to unregulation is fresh in people's minds.
This came up in our Global Political Economy class, not surprisingly.
Maybe the inherent distrust of government by the American people has us in this paradox where we want to deregulate the market system but at the same time we know it fucks us over.

It seems we are very lucky this whole thing happened when Bush is in his last days and a lame duck. It appears the Republicans on capital hill are actually doing their job and are concerned for the people and asked the President to discuss it with the American people. Oh and they limited CEO pay of the companies that are to bailed out. www.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/business/economy/25paulson.html?hp

Dumb Bitch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRpmC9GXa-IHow fucking stupid is she? Seriously. And how fucking stupid is McCain for picking such a dumb piece of shit. Joe Biden is going to rip her a new one. It's going to be far worse for them than the hit McCain took from Obama in the debate. If they win... I don't even know. I sent for my absentee ballot last week.

Tim, 90% of Americans don't know the issues when they vote, at least not as well as the 10% who know whats going on. So they evaluate shortcuts to choose their candidate. Palin is hot, witty, and funny. That, in many people's minds, is enough to be president. How do you think Bush won the election TWICE? Hell, he didn't even win the first one.
Obama last night told McSame, Ahmadenijad (who's name McSame mispronounced numerous times) was not the man in power in Iran. This tells me Obama actually knows something about foreign nations. But Obama didn't direct McSame's stupidity back at him. So while very few people in this fucking country know how Iran's government works, a place most likely to be the most important political issue of the next 10 years, NO BODY CARED. McSame made some funny comment afterward, and I knew Iran was erased from peoples minds.
Same thing happened to Kerry back in 2004. People didn't like this man, he had a long face, a stupid voice and 3 annoying purple hearts. But he knew the issues. But did any one give a flying fuck? No, Kerry, in many people's opinions, was TOO intelligent.
Its all about heuristics in this country. We come to many sad conclusions about democracy as PoliSci majors, and this is just one of them.
