Who would be willing to spend 150 wood on a military unit with an attack of 25, range of 8, rate of fire of 3 and 4500 hit points? They also don't count towards you pop cap. You can only build 5 to 10 on a typical map. They are called advanced trading posts. They are usually evenly spread out which gives you "mini spies." In a no rush game, it would keep enemy settlers from nearby resources. You can also get ally units and upgrades. What a deal!

Speed of 0. Plus your villes can't garrison in them. I really don't know why people swear by that card... I think it's one of the last ones I would put in my deck. Maybe I just dunno how to use them.

I think it might have some value in a no rush game. It would help with map control. Hit points are increased by 50% (3000 + 1500= 4500)

I see what your saying. Does it make the trade route come faster or generate more XP? That would be helpful to the Germans too... especially if they wanted to do a merc rush! ;D

They are especially annoying on 1v1, since i dont take them, and my civs dont need them. When ottos use it they can see my units traveling too.
Remember that 2v2 when i was germans b french d ottos and tim dutch. The reason why you guys never launced a succesful attack except for the first one was that we could always see D's units on their way because of hte trade route, they were so slow that we could see them twice actually before they gto to the base, so yes htey have more than just the use of resources.

I see what you're saying... I see the value of building a bunch of tradeposts and towers, it just doesn't seem like the most worthwile card cuz it only subtracts 100 wood to cost... and the building HP card gives ALL buildings 40% HP. That's why I usually use it cuz it helps blockhouses, factories, and TCs, not just trade posts.

Actually after trying it a few times, I agree. Getting the building hit point increase is better and I wouldn't want to give up another card.

Since you can win with a trading post monopoly, what about getting advanced trading posts and building hit points and trying for a early victory? A fast army to defend them would be necessary - spahis, cavalry, mounted artillary etc. Also, are Verizon DSL users having lagging problems the last two days?

YES D, something is wrong with verizon. I am having extreme problems.
And you can only get trade manopoly in the 4th age. so i guess an ottoman or a dutch could pull it off.

Hey D, I just finished up my paper (hence I'm online at 4 anyway) and the internet is OK here at the house... it's not 100% normal... but a steady improvement over the apartment (first time ever maybe). Verison is fucked up.
And yeah, the trade monopoly is good... except it is a 4th age thing only AND holding onto all of them would be tough for 5 minutes that early on. Most people could round up enough pikemen to have it gone by 8 minutes even if you got them all up by 3, and you wouldn't have much of an army to defend them all.
Doesn't it cost food wood and gold too? Trying to get a steady amount of each before the 3rd age is tricky business as it is.
I like the idea but it probably wouldn't work. Maybe we should try a slingshot at 3 minutes instead?
