ben what are you talking about? they already made a unit called the orp! it has a 10X effectiveness against unprotected, unassisted, nick. it also has this thing where if there are exactly 13 of them, the bonus increases to infinity.
thats why they should make an anti- bensannoyingraid cannon

you could just build a wall around your base, it might not hold him for long but it gives you long enough to get your units into place.

Nick you need an anticavalry unit that you can build and manuver quickly. Think about it. You need to protect your factories and make them resistant to orps. A good wall and bombard towers are a requirement before you send your slow moving janissaries out of town - take it from someone who suffered orp attacks from Chris long before B was the russians.

We keep on forgetting that this topic is about mortars... I think it has been at least 10 posts since we've even mentioned them

Mortars = little effectiveness in AOE3 but what about 50 range mortars in WC? Do these have a place with 20 range dragoons and 20 range cassadors? Maybe the strat could be "kill the dudes before they even get there."

russians have something called unicorne mortars. they increase attack by 20%, and decrease build speed and cost. i have taken to using mortars for getting in the base even more than orps. since i have my forts around and (hopefully) a nice mass of guys just milling around it is safer to have some cheap, tough mortars blasting from a distance. then the siege flood comes.
