I think I have found a strat that may put my germans on the right path. I need some more time to perfect it but this might be the light for germany, its ENTIRELY different than anything i have ever done.
Ok age up with the normal 8 peasants 5 settler wagons. Put all settler wagons on gold and put half of the villes on food and half on wood. Age up with the 400 wood politician.
Ive NEVER put any villes on gold when aging up, with any civ ever. So its kinda new to me. I usually end up with 800 gold when i reach the second age. I collect the wood and immediately send palpatine settlements (houses provide 30 pop) i then build a SALOON. I think ben had a thread on the ineffectiveness of the saloon. Not when you all of a sudden have 160 pop space open and 10 villes on gold.
Now, the pirates pretty much suck. But the outlaws are amazing. There is the card "dance hall" which reduces the pop of the saloon guys and allows you to build some other guys. I dont have it so i dont know how it works yet.
I continually build peasants with my food guys and then ship 3 settler wagons or 9 x bows depending on the situation.
This is the perfect counter to a rush. With the market upgrade i can have excess gold, even when building hte outlaws. And if they dont rush, all i do is send the 700 food shipment and go up to fortress.
This is really nice because it now finally gives me OPTIONS. Instead of purely rushing or purely FFing and i now can do both and react just as fast.
Oh and i added mercs back into my deck so you guys will be seeing more of them.
*Note: I have not tried this against an otto rush. Although i suspect it to be very effective. Janns get taken out by the outlaws+longbows and grenadiers are easily taken care of with uhlans. But who knows.
