i played my second and third russian game today. to sum it up, i lost to a conscript. thats right... a conscript. next time i decide to try a new civ i'm playing a couple unrated games so i don't get stuck using a lvl 1 deck. not cool.

i have won 9 out of my last 10 games. not too shabby... i played a fantastic game last night. it was a standard 2 semi noobs against me and a total noob. the guy slow imperialed and only with my generous contributions. but by the time he made it i had already won. what i was really surprised about was HOW MANY GUYS I COULD BUILD. i mean usually i build a bunch of jans, abus, and grens. all of these units are expensive in early ages to build en masse. as the russians i found myself holding off 2 guys successfully! the game lasted about a half hour and i built almost 200 musks and 200 strels as well as a bunch of orps and halbs. very very encouraging.

Congrats Nick! What skill level and HC level are you yup to with your Russians? I think it's pretty sweet that people are starting to learn how to use more than one civ other than Patrick (myself included). When I get home in May, I can give you some of my Russian decks (1v1, team rush, FF, NR, etc) and we can compare what they look like. The Russians are amazing at stoping rushes are are probably the best turtle civ in the game along with the Dutch. You'll find however that their weakness is a low peasant count in the early ages and their vulnerability to raids in the second age epecially. Also, almost every Russian player Ages up with 14 peasants. 17 and 11 just don't make it.

be careful with those devious spanish and french players 1v1 or any game for that matter. Their calvary is dangerous for the russians

i played a french sergeant nr 40 yesterday and out eco'd him. he spammed cuirs and skirms but always sent the ponies to attack my base. halbs/cav archers took care of that. jb you need to give me some tips on efficient base building.

Always try to have 3 layers of wall that aren't super close to each other, as well as blockhouses and stables around the parimeter of your base. That way, they become the primary source of your defense while the forts are the primary source of offense. It save on micro and allows you to cover your ass if things get rough. French NR players are so predictable it sickens me.

Yeah, I can help you with a deck and a strat if you want to help you max out your vills faster and get more resources early. The one thing you could have done was built more forts up front and attacked together with Mike a little better.
