I'm toying with a new French Strategy for a future game. The French have some amazing economy cards, that if combined with their peasents, could nearly support a two or three person team. What I'm comtemplating is... losing the skirmisher and musketeer AND artillary part of my game... and ONLY having cards that improve my horses and economy. I think I could single-handedly support almost all of my team if I maxed out my peasant population and then just built horses with the rest of my resources I do most of the defensive fortifications with my 2 forts and outposts, and let my teammates only worry about military and very basic economic strategy so they could produce more units. This would mean less micro-managing for everyone and letting my French play to one of their strongest advantages.

Sounds sweet, i wouldnt max out your peasant pop if i were you, and skirms are still useful. But sounds good, those horsies really kick some ass! and think, combined with the german economy! amaazzzing.

Also, I know the skirms are useful, I'd only use the Booming thing if I had 3 other people on my team and my horses were really the only unique unit I had... I don't think this strategy will be ready for 12-29 though... I haven't buit a super economy deck yet

Oh yeah, Tim is copying our mercenary strategy with the Dutch. I guess he's working on revamping his Dutch so they can be more effective before age 5. With his banks and s h i t, I worry it might actually work. What do ya think?

Go ahead let him try and get mercenaries, he will never make it. It cost 1200 gold per merc unit in the 3rd age. And it cost 2000 gold per merc army in age 4. So lets say he has 3 mercs in age 3. Thats 3600 gold, and has 2 armies in age 4, thats 4 thousand gold. So will some one please tell me how long it takes to get will someone tell me how long it will take to get 7600 gold before the time i get 5 thousand. Even if he is the dutch, my mercenaries are better, i get more of them, i get them for free. And if he wants to do that , i will just rush him. Uhlans! Dopplesoldners!

Pat your mercanaries take maybe 12:00 to get in the game and thats if you dont really do much in the way of other units or fortifications. If someone rushed the F*** out of you at 10:00 you could never get mercanaries up. It doesnt even need to be a killer rush. Maybe just 10 hussars running to each gold pile and killing the peasants there. Without a steady gold income you can't: -get to age 3 -get the cheap mercanary research

tim. im in age 3 at 8 minutes last time i checked. And even then i have about 2000 gold, i can still order half of my guys. 10 black riders vs 10 hussars?
Even if you do rush me, i will have a barracks, i can still build dopples.

I looked back on the French, and decided that this super boom is about all they are good for. They no longer have the capacity to rush... and they FF is still slower than many other civs. Tim was bitching about how I didn't help him... and to an extent, we has right. They just can't get the numbers fast enough with their draggin initial economy. They are like the Dutch and the British and would be better off just funding their allies and using the rest of their stuff to build ponies to raid and kill cannons. Their peasent loss in the beginning was just crushing. That's 120 food + 40 to 50 resources per minute that the French are lacking... they just can't get on their feet until the late game. I beat a level 22 French with my 7 Russians because I just pounded him with numbers early, and it was just too hard for him to recover. People had been doing the same thing to me.

Exactly, so they fall into the boom civ catagory, along with ports, britts, dutch ottomans(yes they can boom)

Which is why we need more rushing civs! The Spanish and the Russians just aren't enough.
